I intended to write a new post regarding a sea mishap which happened lately on a Friday the 13th when my attention was caught by an empty pack of cracker nuts placed on the top of the computer table.
My husband is fond of eating nuts , from salted peanuts, pili nuts to cracker nuts. Everytime he watches the television, you could hear the sound of his ” gnashing bouts ” with cracker nuts!
What is so important about this topic? Well, I have to emphasize the “Nutrition Facts” found in the wrapper of the hot and spicy cracker nuts. One serving size which is approximately (30 grams ) 1/4 cup contains 140 calories, total fat 6 grams,1.5grams saturated fat , 90 mg sodium, 19 grams total carbohydrates, 2grams dietary fiber, 5 grams sugar , 4 grams protein, 0% Vit A, 2% Calcium and 4% Iron.
Studies have shown that heart diseases wherein heart arteries become plugged with saturated fats is responsible for many deaths.
It is high time that we ( especially in the 50’s) change to low-fat diet and eat foods with limited calories . It makes good sense to have a more healthful diet and get more exercise.
So let us take a good look at our diet. Herein lies the challenge- yours and mine because absolutely our health is our wealth. ” Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, bawal magkasakit !”
