First visit of a two-year old kid to a barbershop

♦

‘Twas a horrific day for my grandson yesterday!

Eulo is a two-year old boy and has  never ever been to a barber shop for a haircut since birth. His daddy just tries to cut his hair shorter only when he is in deep sleep. The day after tomorrow, he will be the ring bearer during the wedding of his uncle. He will be wearing a formal attire- a barong- so he needs to have a haircut in order for him to feel comfortable during the midday affair. Wearing a formal long-sleeved attire this hot summer days seems like being placed in a hot chamber, you know.

Yesterday, his grandpa and I brought him to an air-conditioned barbershop at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. With him on my lap, we both took the barber’s seat. Upon hearing the sound of the electric razor, he got so frightened, shivered in great fear and screamed so loudly. His tears relentlessly flowed down his cheeks as he sweat a lot.

Lesson to learn- for kids who will be having their first haircuts, it is best to expose them to barbershops earlier so they will be acquainted with the people around and get to see somebody ( better still- their own dad)  seated comfortably.

I just cannot imagine how it is during his next visit to a barbershop again. I hope by that time,  he’ll take it in stride…gleefully.
