Most of us are aware that there are areas in our place wherein a lot of chaos thrive (such as standoffs between military forces within the country, etc.).
As Mother Teresa once said, ” If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. ”
Attributed to both Golda Meir and Indira Gandhi is a quote which says, ” You cannot shake hands with a closed fist. ”
Another writer also has said, ” Five great enemies to peace which inhabit within us : avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride. If these enemies were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace.”
Why then can’t we attain a world at peace?
There’s nothing wrong of being a dreamer. Those in their 50’s now especially, might remember one iconic song which was considered as an anti-war anthem in the early 1970’s? For the consumption of young readers, here are few of its lines…
” Imagine no possession, I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger,a brotherhood for man
Imagine there’s no country,it isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for…and no religion too….
I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will be as one!”
Although the song “Imagine” was composed and sang by John Lennon more than four decades back , with its serene melody and its concept of peace and brotherhood of man, it may inspire us.
Imagining is like dreaming…the song depicts of a dream or a concept of a global harmony, one country, one world, one people and a religion which does not insist that “his-God-is- better-than-our-God”- thing.
Truly, without these enemies of peace– our imagination , our dream of global harmony– can become true!
