Awareness phenomenon on diseases

It is good to see lately, the “ice bucket challenge” in televisions and in the internet. This awareness phenomenon  is intended to promote information – dissemination of  an extremely rare disease called ALS-  “Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis “-  This activity is going viral through out a wide variety of social media and Facebook and is causing  more and more people getting encouraged to donate monetary support for its research purposes.

Can’t we have more activities  done to promote awareness of other diseases with high morbidity and mortality prevalence? Pneumonia is one disease which  is also frightening. Estimates of its incidence are high.

Getting sick and getting hospitalized is very expensive nowadays. What with the very high cost of medicine , laboratory procedures and  the professional fees of doctors! Being fully informed of their causes may lead to lesser prevalence rates. After all, “prevention is better than cure”!
