Never before have I been so critical of commonplace- simple words which I read from newspapers or hear from tv hosts not until lately that I seem to notice this one word most frequently said over the social media and even with my friends. It’s the word, selfie!
As far as I know, it has been around for almost a couple of years now. Selfie refers to “self-portrait” which may be hastily snapped with a smart phone. We know that many young people are used to invent their own language to dissociate themselves from the oldies. They tend to shorten long phrases into shorter and cooler words to pronounce , oftentimes using abbreviations and acronyms. For sure, that is how the word- selfie was formed.
An information which I got from the net says that the word selfie is also “England’s word of the year for 2013 and subsequently been added to the Oxford Dictionary”.
(Like other mobile inventions, a quality hunting camera is also a necessity. It is a small scouting camera that can be operated on 6AA batteries and is very handy on many outdoor settings. It can take day and night photos . Most importantly, it is equipped with lightning-fast detection unit. )
Let us capture the significant and even the not-so-significant moments of our lives. Afterall, it’s simply fun! Take selfies!
