It’s past midnight and I am about to sleep but I hear the sounds of the geckos here in our room. But wait , this gives me an idea to write about these ‘annoying noisy creatures’ whose sounds we normally hear at night time. Long ago, I had a quick glance of them ( there are two) at the back of our cabinet when they were about six inches long. I am so scared of these creatures and I have been wanting them thrown out of my house.
Lately, what was unbelievable for me is the information that ‘gecko trade’ is very much alive here in our place. I have heard quite a lot of stories from people and even over local radio stations that its price is said to reach a million (???) depending on its specie and weight.
My sister who lives almost a hundred kilometers from us showed great interest on this matter as she has been texting me asking for the geckos. Her son has stayed in our house few months back for a vacation and he was a witness to the annoying sounds that sounds like music from a broken console piano especially during night time.
At first I told her that it’s a hearsay until I came across open advertisements in the internet : “Geckos for sale” and “We buy geckos”.
Just recently , I came across an article in the latest tabloid entitled ” Geckos can’t cure sick – DoH” . ” The Department of Health cautioned the people…against using geckos for the sick, saying there is no actual finding that they can cure or treat any kind of ailment.” A senator “called the hearing as he expressed concern on the massive hunting and selling of geckos that he said could lead to their extinction and ultimately affect the ecological system and the environment”.
At this instance, shall we take this gecko-thing more seriously or not? Or is it nonsense????
