Home Improvement Indispensables: Three Purchases To Class Up Your House

When you have just moved into a home, or have been living in your current one long enough to get a little “familiar” with it, it is likely you will want to vamp it up a little. Let us face it; we know what familiarity breeds – and, if it belonged to someone else before, chances are you will want to give it a facelift.

Not that it was not lovely when you bought it (or you would not have bought it, right?), it is just that you want to put your stamp on a place. It is where you will be resting your head almost every day for the next few years at least. Bearing that in mind, you will want to make it worth spending time in. Of course, for that, you will probably need to spend a bit of money, too.

You could easily go to a range of online stores now and make a list of items you want to buy, to make your home look perfect. However, bear in mind that funds aren’t unlimited – what do you need now to take your home from “Yeah, OK” to “Wow”?

A Pressure Washer: Because There’s “Clean” And Then There’s Clean

The outside of your house is filthy. Oh! You should be ashamed!

No, you should not. However, it probably is. The truth is that over the course of a period of years, your house will accumulate grime, dust, and environmental mess. It is unavoidable.

Aside from anything else you do when making your home look better, an exterior pressure wash is simply essential. You may not have realized how grimy it was. Then you see the difference in Before/After shots, and you will be amazed. Because it was so ground in, it takes a high-pressure jet of soapy water to fix it. However, with that done, it will look like new. Do this even if you are going to repaint. That way, you will be painting onto a clean wall.

A Water Softener: Because Hard Water Ages Everything.

Absolutely everything.

Including you. Including your clothes, any appliances that need water, your sinks, your bath, and shower – you get the picture. It is a long list. It is worth shopping for a water softener and including the ones mentioned here in your search, because the difference is epic.

No more glasses coming out of the dishwasher looking cloudy. No more rings around the bath. It may seem like a boring purchase until you realize how much money it saves you in replacements. Your skin will thank you, too.

A Floor Steamer/Carpet Shampooer: You Know Why.

When you paint a wall, you can learn to give it a few inches’ grace as you walk past it. When you buy a new sofa, you can ban food and pets from ever being on it. Your floors? Unless you plan to levitate everywhere, they are going to take punishment. They will be the first thing in your interior to start looking old.

This is the case for carpets, rugs, stone or wooden flooring, or tiles. Dirt will get on the floor, and it will be trod and ground into it, because gravity is a thing. So investing in a steam cleaner for the floor, or a carpet cleaner, will allow those floors to look fresher for longer. Not to mention it will save you $$$ in the meantime.
