It is so common nowadays to move house as soon as you get bored. It is almost becoming the norm; Ellen DeGeneres has boasted before that she moves every 6 months at least as she gets so tired of staying in one place. However, what if we don’t have the funds, can’t be bothered or simply just don’t want to partake in the rejuvenated nomad lifestyle?

We work on what is in front of us, that is what. It may not be the whole house that is becoming tedious to you – it could be little features upon it. Look at both the exterior and the interior and compare with what you would want from another house – it could surprise you what you could either DIY or get done to your own home, saving you the hassle of moving.

Windows and doors

The exterior of your home can become extremely outdated over time – there are very few buildings, which can be classy and stylish forever. To add to this, buildings constantly need updating; what may have been effective twenty years ago may not be now. Wooden windowpanes can rot over time if not looked after properly, and paint on them can wither away. Look for companies and products that will be able to offer a service to get these fixed, such as Monte Verde replacement windows. You will also be getting two jobs done for the price of one – although your new windows may look fabulous, there is the added element of them being a better heat retainer throughout the winter months. What a bonus!

Woodwork

Touch up any woodwork around your property and give it a new lease of life. If your house has wood finish or you have a wooden porch, put some time and effort into giving it a makeover. Choose a different color of a different finish to make it really stand out and turn into a property that you can be proud of. It’s not just limited to the house, either – if you have outside furniture or even anything on the inside such as kitchen cabinets that are made out of wood, a quick paint job could save you hundreds in replacement products of a different color. Think of how much a tin of paint costs compared to replacing the whole thing entirely – which price sounds more appealing to you?

Brickwork

It can be beneficial both cosmetically and structurally for you to get your house repointed – especially if you live in an old building. It does not have to be costly if you take on the work yourself, and it can add value to your home when you wish to sell it. Not only will it look good when you finish the project (provided you have stuck to the guidelines and not made a mess of it), but it will also add protection by keeping the wall sound and sturdy. Different shades of mortar can be achieved to really change the look and style of your home.
