Leaving The City Behind

♦

Moving into the countryside can seem like a brilliant idea, and sometimes it is. These days, many people are leaving the chaos of the city in favor of a quiet, serene life in the country. Unfortunately, it is not always quite so clear-cut. Many people find that once they get there, it is not quite what they imagined it to be. If you are considering a move to the country, you need to think about it in depth first, and make sure you have covered every angle before deciding to leave the city behind.

Here are some of the main things that you need to think about before moving to the country.

Do you enjoy urban life?

You might think that is a silly question. If you are moving to the countryside, it is because you do not like urban life, right? Well it might be the case that you think you hate urban life but in fact, it is only certain aspects that you do not like. You might find that if you moved out of the city completely, you would struggle without many of the conveniences of city life. Ask yourself whether you could really live without a twenty-four hour shop just down the road, or public transport that runs at regular times throughout the night. You will not have any of these things out in the country.

Can you afford it?

This often depends on from where you are moving. Some cities will be a lot cheaper than the surrounding countryside, so you need to get in touch with a rural real estate agent and have a look at some prices. You might find that you will get a lot less for your money out in the country. That does not mean you can never upgrade though. If you are moving out of a very expensive city, you might actually find yourself with more money.

Another consideration you need to make is the extra costs you will incur from living further away from the city. The main one is transport. If you are planning on commuting into the city for work, this will cost you a lot in fuel. There are also things you will need to go into the city for sometimes that cannot be avoided.

Social Life

Do you enjoy going out to the theatre or to bars quite often? You will not be able to do this out in the countryside. If nightlife is an important factor for you, the countryside might not be the best option. You are also going to be leaving all of your friends behind and if you are moving quite far into the country, it will be a long drive to see them. That is not to say you will not meet new people in your new home but it is doubtful there will be a vibrant party scene out in the country.

There are benefits to moving into the country. You can get away from the hustle and bustle and live a more relaxing life. However, you might not realize how much you love some aspects of city life until you have left them behind so make sure you think long and hard before making any moves.
