No Air Conditioning? No Problem!

♦

Many people rely on air conditioning to keep themselves cool at home. While this is perfect if you have the cash to spare for a unit and the repair and maintenance costs, it can get expensive after a while and you are likely going to spend a fortune each summer on electricity to run it. However, even if you do not have an air conditioning unit, that does not mean you have to suffer the blazing heat day in day out during the summer.

To help you prepare for summer, here are a couple of ways to keep your body temperature cool for when the heat starts to take over.

Drink water

It sounds basic, but keeping your body hydrated involves drinking a lot of water. No one enjoys sitting around sweating like a pig, but you need to replenish that lost fluid with something such as water. You do not need to waste money on energy drinks, bottled water or anything fancy. Just get a simple water filter, some empty bottles and then chill the filtered water. If you are fine drinking tap water, then that will give you even more savings. Check out http://www.reviews.com/water-filter/ if you want more information about different types of water filters.

Invest in fans

Something that people do not seem to realize is that a fan does not actually cool air, it just keeps it circulating so it gives you that cool breeze sensation that you long for when you’re out in the blazing heat. Fans can be quite energy hungry if you leave them on for a long period of time and they only target certain areas. It is great if you just want a desk fan to keep you cool while you work, but if you want a long-term solution, then consider investing your money into a large ceiling fan. You can check out some at www.mylightingsource.com/store/categories/1480/Casablanca-Fans to get a good idea of what a great ceiling fan needs to cool your room. They might seem like a costly investment, but they do not consume much power and are perfect even for the winter.

Cool your body

It is not your house that needs to be cooled—it is your body! One of the best ways to cool your body is to simply wrap your cooling spots with a cold hand towel. You could even toss a wet cloth into the freezer for 30 minutes to turn it into a cooling pack. If you want to make the most of this, you need to learn your body’s cooling spots, as shown at http://lifehacker.com/5571072/know-your-bodys-cooling-spots. Another quick way to cool your body is to simply run cold water on your wrists for a few seconds. These methods are perfect if you have a few spare minutes to.

Stop working so hard

Our bodies generate heat when we do things such as moving around a lot, jump about or even clean. If you want to minimize the amount of heat that your body is generating, then give yourself a break. Relax on the bed, lounge on the sofa or just sit on a chair in the shade while reading a book. Minimize the amount of movement you make and drink plenty of water if you want to beat the heat and stay cool during the summer.
