The bathroom is one of the most used places in the house for families. After all, everyone needs to use it during the morning, and then it gets busy again at nighttime. Due to this, it tends to be one of the top rooms that have the most problems. In fact, we do not know how many times we have heard ‘it’s not working!’ when the kids go in the bathroom.
Many of the problems that can occur are down to silly mistakes made by our family members. In many instances, they could have been avoided. This could not only stop the inconvenience of having your bathroom out of bounds, but it could also save the expensive bills. Therefore, here are some common bathroom mistakes your family needs to avoid to keep it in shape for longer.
Running the shower without the exhaust fan
Many people know the damage that can be caused when running the shower without a fan. After all, the steam builds up on the wall and ceiling. Then you can end up with a damp problem, which can be costly. Also damp can be dangerous for your family if left untreated and it turns into mold. This is why it is important for families to do the correct thing of going for an exhaust fan for the bathroom. However, even with one was fitted, it does not stop many family members from forgetting to turn it on when using the shower! After all, if they are in a rush, they can often forget to put it on in the morning. However, if it is not used, you are soon going to be suffering from damp in your bathroom. In addition, you will have to pay out for a company to remove it before it causes further problems to your humble abode. Therefore, remind your kids that it is necessary to turn it on when using the bathroom. You might want to put a bright sticker next to the button to give them a visual reminder. You could even switch it on in the morning just before the kids go in to use the bathroom.
Not cleaning the shower or bath after using it
It is easy for your family members to be in a rush when using the bath or the shower. After all, they might be rushing to get to school or when they need to go to bed at night. Nevertheless, when they do rush, they might not clean the bath out properly after using it. It means that things like loose hairs can easily build up in the plughole. If they are not removed quickly, it can soon build up and then you could end up with a blocked plug. You will then have to try to get the hair out yourself or get some form of liquid that can clear the blockage. In some cases, you might even have to get a plumber out who will remove the blockage for you. Many families cannot afford this expense. Therefore, it is so important that you remind the kids to clean the shower or the bath after using it. If they are too young, make sure you clear it out for them to ensure nothing blocks the bath or shower! Some handy tools out there can be fitted in to the plug to collect all hair and other loose items. That way, you can quickly remove these before they cause a blockage!
Pressing the flush button too often
Many youngsters think it is funny to press the flush button several times after going to the toilet. Alternatively, they might even do it if not everything flushes away the first time. However, if you keep pressing the button, it is likely that you are going to end up with a broken button. After all, it can easily be stuck if your family member keeps pressing it. Then it will not work correctly when you press the flush button.
You might have to make the toilet out of bounds so that you do not potentially end up with a flooded situation in the bathroom! You might have to look for a company who offers plumbing services to fit a new toilet for you! This can end up costing you a small fortune if you are not careful. Therefore, ensure that your family members only press the flush button once when they go to the loo. You might even want to look into getting an automatic flush toilet. That way, they have nothing to press so they cannot break the toilet!
Putting too much toilet paper in the loo
It is tough to be a toilet paper monitor when it comes to your bathroom. However, you need to be careful as a lot of kids end up putting too much in the toilet. In some cases, they do not flush after so the toilet ends up full of paper. Then when it comes to flushing the loo, you can end up with a blocked toilet. You will then need to try to unblock the toilet, which is never a fun job. After all, it can take much more than just a simple plunger to fix that toilet. Several moms end up having to call for further help. Not only is it costly, but it is inconvenient if it is the only toilet in the house.
To prevent this, limit the amount of paper that it is in the bathroom to stop this occurring. Always double check little ones have flushed before they leave the room. Remember that if you have a blocked toilet but cannot see an explanation, there could be a toy in there! Many little ones drop their toys in the loo, and then you will end up having to fish it out if there is a blockage!
Also, remember to keep your sink clean as much as you can. After all, a buildup of toothpaste or shaved hair can easily cause problems in the drain. Then you will end up having to fix the drain under the sink!
