Four Tips to Help Moms Take Care of Themselves

♦

mother-and-little-daughter-reading-bookPutting yourself first when you are a mom can be really challenging. After all, you have little people who are fully depending on you. If you’d like to work on making sure that you don’t run yourself into the ground, it’s wise to begin practicing self-care. Consider these four tips to help you practice and take care of yourself.

1. Quiet Time

You can approach quiet time in two different ways. If you’re a morning person, wake up an hour before your children do. Use this time to read books on spiritual healing. Exercise and get your body aligned. Meditate and do deep breathing techniques. On the other side, you can get quiet time before bed. Most children need to go to bed early. Once you get the kids ready for bed, relax and enjoy an uninterrupted drink and a dessert.

2. Assistance

In many cases, it can be difficult to juggle everything on your own. Don’t try. Reach out to a family member or friend and ask if they’d mind babysitting for two hours while you get an ice cream cone or a massage at the spa. It might sound trivial to some, but taking a break to recharge is important. Even if this means you need to hire a babysitter, do what you need to do in order to stay sane.

3. Scheduled Priorities

Create a schedule and stick to it. Parenthood involves being flexible when your children are in need. Make a schedule that reflects that. Embrace the fact that as a mom, there might be times when your child is in need of something. With that understanding, it’s wise to allow some fluidity as you’re structuring your day. If possible, do your best to avoid wallowing in the fact that you’re needed so much. Embrace it as your reality and make the best of it.

4. Planning

Plan your day the night before. Think about your short-term and long-term goals. As you become clear about what you want, it’ll be easier for you to figure out which projects need your attention. In addition, you’ll be able to experience the benefits of creating a plan and executing it. Moreover, when you are organized, it is a lot easier to focus on the end goal.
