Gardens have many purposes. Relaxation, socialization, and beauty. However, one thing they are often not used for, that they could work perfectly for, is growing food. You can this space of land that can become your own mini grocery store if you let it. Growing food doesn’t take as much effort as you might think. All you need to do is have a bit of time each day to check up on them and make sure they are doing ok. You can put many different food plants in your garden that will give you the most gorgeous foods. It also helps to give you that rustic feel to a garden. So if you are wondering how and what to grow, then read on to find out more.

Fruits

The most colorful thing you can put in your garden, and maybe even one of the easiest to grow. All you need to do is find what fruits you might like to grow. You can either have ones off a tree, such as the Meyer lemon trees. Alternatively, you can have ones that grow off a smaller branch, such as strawberries. Both are easy to grow, but the strawberries do require more work than the lemon tree. The lemon tree also looks gorgeous. The contrast of the yellow and the green really sets the tree off. However, remember to give it a lot of space to grow. They do get big, but not too big that you cannot control it. Strawberries you can get seeds from at your local home and garden store. All you need is a pot to plant them in, and some good fertile soil. This can also be bought from your local home store. Plant the seeds and give them enough water and minerals to make sure they blossom perfectly. Tend to them every few days to make sure they are hydrated and free of any parasites.

Vegetables

Vegetables are the most common item to grow in a garden, and probably the easiest. Again, all you need to decide is what vegetables to grow. Many people chose onions etc. All you need to do is have some fertile soil. Toss the soil to bring up the freshest parts from underneath. Lay down some fertilizer before planting the vegetables. Make sure you are leaving enough space between each seed so that the vegetable has space for the roots to grow out. Again, just like with the strawberries, tend to them every few days to make sure they are free from parasites and look hydrated.

Herbs

Some herbs you can only grow at certain times of the year, so it is important that you pick one that is going to be suitable. For example, parsley is something commonly used in everyday meals, but it can only be grown through the months of March to October. Since we are coming up to the month of March, we might as well chose this one! Sow the seeds into some fresh fertile soil, and follow the instructions on the seed packet about caring for them.
