Stay-at-home parents are often scrutinized as lazy or incompetent, but nothing could be further from the truth. SAH moms and dads are often the hardest working individuals in a household, as they have the responsibilities of raising their children and keeping their home clean and presentable.
With that said, many SAH parents choose to supplement their household income with odd jobs and projects. How? Read on for a few ideas.
Host Garage and Yard Sales on a Regular Basis
Children are constantly growing out of clothes and toys, so host garage and yard sales on a regular basis. Once every two months is a good way to get rid of your overgrowth of clothes and toys while making a few bucks to supplement your family. Just make sure the items are washed and in good condition.
Consider a Parent Blog or Vlog that Showcases Opinions, Feelings, and Personal Advice
Parents love to hear from other parents because everyone needs reassurance that they are doing this parenting thing right. Like-minded people are friends from the start, so make some new friends and get an audience going for your own parent blog or vlogs. Make entries that matter, showcasing your opinions, feelings, and personal advice about parenting issues that you’ve encountered, like potty training or picky eaters.
Become a Freelance Writer, Web Designer, or Social Media Networker
One of the most successful ways that a SAH parent can supplement household income is with online projects as a freelance writer, social media networker, or web designer. Some require degrees; others simply require interest in building skills. There are plenty of websites where companies and small business employers post their projects, so put together a portfolio and see what kind of project you can hook.
Side note: If you’re good with words, you could even work remotely via cam for an ESL summer camp for International students.
Set up a Daycare for Fellow Moms and Dads that Work Outside the Home
Some moms and dads are simply happier working outside of the home, while, for others, it’s necessary. Get together with fellow parents to set up a daycare system for children in your neighborhood. Offer a safe, happy, healthy space where kids can play, learn, and spend their time while mom and dad are at their daily jobs. Appreciative parents are willing to shell out substantial cash for a daycare that cares about their kids. Make that yours.
