We have just inherited one antique furniture after the death of my mother-in-law. It is a round table and is maybe older than my 25-year old son. It was made from a hard narra wood with 4 round carved legs. Its leg is more or less 1.5 inches in diameter and the round table has a diameter of almost one meter, 2.5 inches thick.
I asked my son, ” Whoever designed this table long ago may have not discerned that its legs are too small to carry the weight of the big hard round table, right?”.
My son immediately quipped, ” Whoever designed this table may have been so brilliant..he has made a table so sturdy to carry its weight with that kind of legs to last this long. I could never imagine myself just standing, without sitting, since birth- without breaking my knees!”.
