“Kiss of Fire”

♦

How painful it is to witness my own mother suffering from a chronic disorder of the mental processes caused by injury!

Two weeks back, my 77 years old Mom suffered from an internal bleeding due to a head injury as she fell down because of too high blood pressure, on a cemented floor. Fortunately, after a series of brain scans, her neurosurgeon ruled out surgery. She spent almost two weeks in the hospital in its Intensive care Unit.

Now she is back home and is spending sleepless nights. Medicine to enhance sleep has no effect on her. To just enjoy the nights with her, we are forced to listen to her “memories- – recalled”… Just like her story that so many years back she participated in a program where she sang “Kiss of Fire” and danced “Balitaw” with her fellow alumni.

Actually, she plays the CD  to see her performance, almost always, repeatedly… ( if only products such as microphones, amplifiers, etc., were used, the record would have been more awesome!   Anyway, at first, we were also entertained but not after it was played again and again, huh!)

My mom’s possibly suffering from dementia, a loss of brain function which affects her memory, thinking and behavior. Anyhow, I still thank the good Lord for giving us more time to spend with her.

Every day that we spend with each other is God’s blessing. Thank you Lord! Please bless us some more time with my Mom…
