You Don’t Have to Move House to Get a New Home

♦

Why do we move house? For most of us, it is because we want something that we could not get in our old homes. Perhaps our old garden was too small and we want something bigger. Maybe we need more bedrooms to prepare for a family. There are many different reasons, but a lot of these can be fixed with home improvements. When we look at our homes, it can feel old, worn and not very pleasing to the eye. However, with a bit of assistance and some help from contractors, we can turn our homes into something new and refreshing.

Moving is expensive

Moving home can be very costly. Not only do you have to consider the financial implications, but you also need to think about what it means for your job. For instance, maybe you will not be close enough to your old workplace to continue your job. In some cases, you might be forcing your children away from their friends as well. This is never a pleasant situation and it is one of the main reasons why people do not move. Instead of moving, here are a couple of ways that you can make your home feel fresh and new.

Repairing your house

If there are things such as foundation or structural damage to your home, then repair it. If you are tired of creaky floorboards, flimsy walls or doors that do not shut properly, fix those issues. You will be surprised to know that foundation repair cost can be fairly low if you hire the right contractors. It’s almost important to fix these issues if you want a long-lasting home. The longer you leave these damages, the more at risk you are. Walls might collapse, floors might break and your home could collapse under the pressure if you aren’t careful.

Extensions

Imagine walking down the hallway and realizing that there’s an extra door at the end that wasn’t there a month ago. That’s the type of feeling you can get by building an extension on your house. Extensions can be expensive and you usually need permissions before doing it, but it’s one of the most uplifting renovations you can do to your home. Not only does it add more space, removing the need to move home for the sake of a bigger house, but it also gives your house more resale value in case you want to sell it in the future.

Renewing the decor

A great way to give your home a new look is to simply refresh the decor. You can move furniture around, paint the walls, change the floors—anything goes. If you’re dedicated to changing your decor, then consider switching your interior depending on the season. Decor changes can usually be done on your own. With some painting knowledge and a ladder, you could easily repaint your walls and ceiling. However, if you want to change the floor, you have to consider a contractor. This is because changing the floors can be a headache and a lot of work. You need a lot of storage space to clear the room of furniture as well, so keep this in mind.
