This post is a look back on my thoughts that I wrote on my journal about three years ago from today. Here is goes:
Today is a Sunday, my first here in this place.
“It’s great to have you here!”- are words written in the pamphlet of a Church here where I attended mass (as a guest) this morning.
” Relationships- not religion…you’ll find inspiring sermons, passionate worship and thought- provoking Bible studies.”
“What do you think is the main purpose of the Bible?”—well if I have to personally answer this question, I would say..”It is a book containing the words of God.”
To my surprise, the Speaker gave a very nice answer- ” the main purpose of the Bible is the rejection of idolatry” … sounds new to me but when I was reminded of the first of the ten commandments of God (Thou shall not have any Gods before me) , I could say..” Absolutely! that is the purpose. ” Anything that we place ahead of the Lord becomes an “idol”.
My first Sunday here was a memorable one with the community. I liked the music (though I don’t know if they use eminence speakers) but during the sermon, I just couldn’t understand why the Pastor said ,” The most awful thing my mother taught me is drinking during the hardest times.” However this statement was inculcated in my mind. From his words an idea came to my mind. To share this idea to fellow parents, I would like to say to them, especially to fathers–Don’t teach your children that drinking is the medicine for problems. Parents are the ultimate models for the children.
Happy Sunday!
