Advice to Make You Smile: How To Keep Your Teeth Healthy

A trip to the dentist is not many people’s favorite activity, but it is made all the worse if you find that you have to have work done to your teeth. When you have a family, it is a battle to make sure that you all eat right so you can protect your teeth in the end. The problem can be made easier by writing out a weekly shopping list and making sure you stick to it as closely as possible. This reduces the amount of impulse purchases you make that can damage your teeth.

If you do need to make a trip to the dentist anytime soon, look at PMD Dental Care. Here are a few types of food and drink you should cut back on to make your trip to the dentist as hassle-free as possible.

Citrus Intake

Frequent exposure to highly acidic food can cause enamel erosion, which in turn reduces the amount of protection that your teeth have. That is not to say that you need to reduce the amount of fruit that you eat, but certain fruit juices (particularly orange juice) contain a high amount of acid that can also irritate mouth sores. Try limiting the amount of juice you drink to one glass a day.

Coffee and Tea

Many people add sugar to their tea or coffee, which is where a great deal of the harm comes from. However, tea and coffee can also stain your teeth so they are two drinks to be avoided if you are trying to get whiter teeth. Drinking more tap water will have a much better effect on your teeth than caffeine.

Sticky Food

Any food that requires a lot of chewing and sticks to your teeth can be especially bad for you. Many people put dried fruit at the top of their list of healthy snacks but this can end up staying on your teeth for longer, leaving them exposed to the acid that this type of food is full of. Obviously, chewy sweets are even worse so try to cut these out entirely if you can.

Sugary Soft Drinks

Probably one of the main culprits when it comes to causing damage to teeth, most fizzy drinks contain an alarming amount of sugar. If you do not decide to cut these out entirely, you should definitely reduce consumption as much as possible. These types of drinks can be especially alluring for kids, so make sure to enforce some strict guidelines.

Potato Chips

It is a sad thing that all the food that tastes so good seems to be bad for our teeth! However, potato chips are another one that you should think about cutting back on. Again, they are the type of food that can be stuck in the teeth and cause damage long after they have been eaten. If you do eat them, make sure to floss so you can remove the debris that is stuck in your teeth.
