Making Granny’s House The Fun House

♦

The beautiful thing about having grandchildren is that you can be that little bit more relaxed that you were with your own offspring. Being a granny is all about treats, and fun games, and the occasional cookie, hot out of the oven. In fact, some kids love visiting their grandparents’ homes so much, that they call granny’s house the fun house! If you would like your home to be like that, then read on for some suggestions.

Snacks

So one of the most important things that makes Grandma’s house so fun, is all the delicious snacks you can offer the little ones. That means some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, and maybe even some candy bars or sweets as well.

Of course, you cannot just feed them this! As they will be so full of sugar when they go back home that, they will be either violently ill or up for half the night! Therefore, their parents are not going to be best pleased.

That means you should have a selection of healthy snacks on hand too. Include healthy options, such as fruits and vegetables, as well as things like hummus, packets of raisins, and bananas chips.

Art and Crafts

One of the most fun things that the grandchildren can do at your home is arts and crafts. It could be something simple like painting or drawing a picture. Alternatively, it could be something more in depth like learning to sew, knit or do woodwork.

Although what can really make a difference is if the hobby is something that you are interested in, and you share that with your grandkids.

For example, you might be a fantastic baker, so cooking with the kids is something they will enjoy, and you will be teaching them a lifelong skill. Then you can get them involved in a baking their own cookies for snack time.

Activities

Another great way of making Grandma’s house fun is to make sure there are many physically active things to do. These can include dancing console games and swing ball in the garden or even a goal and football set or basketball hoop.

Make things a little more interesting by getting some glass trophies and awards from Premier Trophies, or other stores like them.

Then you can have a tournament, with the winner of each session getting to hold the trophy until next time. The kids with absolutely love this! Especially when they win!

Media

Most grandparents know that kids now are even more connected to their online world than they have ever been. May it be that you deem grandma’s house to be a no online time zone? This is of course entirely up to you.

However, if you are happy for the grandkids to have internet access at your place, then it can help to do two things.

The first is to make sure that you have fast broadband, as kids these days are used quick download speeds. The second is that it is a good idea to look at and configure the parental controls. So you can make sure that the grandkids are safe online.
